0118. Hole
Live Through This
The aftermath of this album includes a double body count as singer / guitarist Courtney Love's hubby (the maybe familiar Kurt Cobain, who also sang backing vocals on two of the tracks) was found dead four days after the release and Hole's bassist (well, she'd just left the band, so the ex-bassist) Kristen Pfaff died of a heroin overdose a couple of months later.
With that setting it might not be a surprise that we're talking about grunge now (and the basis of many conspiracy theories). Grunge that at times sounds less than skilled and with a vocalist with an approach to singing that seems almost feigned in it's expression of boredom and disdain.
In spite of this it actually sounds okay for the most part, though I don't understand why Doll Parts was released as the second single as there are some better tracks on the album, like Jennifer's Body or the cover Credit In The Straight World (which also has an intro which is the apex of Live Through This).
