0099. Le Tigre
Le Tigre
First electroclash on the list? I think so!
First riot grrrls? Definitely.
Le Tigre (the band) were firmly cemented in the riot grrrl-scene with lead singer Kathleen Hanna's history in Bikini Kill.
Le Tigre (the album), however, doesn't share as much of that musical background as there are many fundamentally disparate songs here, but it still doesn't sound like a scattered album. For instance the chanve from Deceptacon, where it's full speed ahead, into a quick tempo-switch down to the feminist- and queer-activist namedrop of Hot Topic.
The lyrics in general are dealing with socially (and somewhat socialist) concious themes in a playful way. Sort of an easy access into questioning the pre-defined social structures, while still keeping the non-compromise-attitude.
A thouroughly good album and a revolution you can dance to.
