The Who Sell Out
Here's how you push a joke too far: On this, The Who's third album, the lads thought it would be a great idea to create a fake radio show playing nothing but music, jingles and commercials and while it might be one of the earlier examples of that style on an album, it's not one of the better (De La Soul's 3 Ft High And Risingon the other hand is a wonderful hip hop example).
The problem is that in their effort to be ironic they've lost track of the skills to write songs that move the listener. Only I Can See For Miles, and to some degree also Silas Stingy, are worth listening to, cause interesting as the other tracks might be from a pop-music history point of view they simply don't ring my bell.
Sorry guys, I know you're legends and all that, but no. Just no. (And by the way: I know my geography skills never are what they should have been, but I'm pretty sure Armenia isn't a city in the sky - just for future reference ;) )
