0034. Slade
Slayed?
Here's one thing the public mind associates to the seventies: british Glam Rock - and this is the version of it that's showy, loud and a bit stupid - in essence: Slade.
This album contains the hit Mama Weer All Crazee Now which (with Slade's trademark misspelling) also can be heard on almost any "hits of the 70's"-album you can find and it's a good exampe of the music that's on Slayed? - it's rock'n'roll for the big stage or friday nights at the pub. Sing-a-long choruses, straightforward lyrics and nice riffs in the verses. They've squeezed in two covers in between their own songs and I got to say that they make a good show of Janis Joplin's Move Over while Let The Good Times Roll / Feel So Fine doesn't reach the band's standard.
Since the "glam"-part thankfully is mostly a show for the stage this is a decent rock album with a collection of good tracks that could keep your drinking going for about half an hour more. (But the "bonus" of one of the band members [edit: the guitarist] on the sleeve-photo being half naked and sporting one of the worst hair cuts of the era is an image that's a bit hard to wash away from the cornea...)
