0013. Kate Bush
The dreaming
I know you're probably not going to believe this, but I actually wished for some Kate Bush today a couple of hours before I used the random page generator (if it happens again I might have to start calling it the "not so random wish granter").
So, Kate Bush's this ginger who got signed by recommendation from Dave Gilmour (yes, the Pink Floyd-guy) at the ripe old age of 16, released the monster-hit Wuthering Heights at 19 and followed it up with a wheelbarrow-full of singles and a couple of albums (which I'm sure we'll get back to in time) until she turned 23 and released this one - The Dreaming (which by no means is her last release).
Musically it moves from backbeat pianos to celtic pipes and I got to admit that there's elements on this album I don't immidiately like. They are the plastic keyboard fanfares on Sat In Your Lap (and yep, that's about it).
Then there's loads more that I absolutely love: Kate's use of her voice is absolutely magnificient! Aside from the effects sometimes laid on it she's got a range which goes from the most delicate falsetto to guttural growlings via shrill screams and booming roars, changing dialects and pitch as fluently as. I think acts like The Knife / Fever Ray has gotten more than one idea or influence from Kate and her unique take on vocalising.
If you've never heard Kate Bush - now is the time. If you haven't bought the album - follow my lead 'cause it's a GotToGet and it's a whole other dimension of music.
