0008. Iggy and the Stooges
Raw Power
Grampa Punk and his Cronies? Classic album with a classic sleeve and I can easily see why it scared the shit out of parents back inna day - it is pretty intense (just imagine coming home to find your little Jimmy standing on the livingroom table, smearing peanut-butter on himself screaming "search and destroy" - he who used to be such a good boy until this "rock" and / or "roll" entered our lives).
...aaanyway. Raw Power's the last studio album released by the "original" Stooges (with so many member-switches "pre-breakup" is probably a better expression to use) after which the band disintegrated and went in their separate directions (well, okay, a year after the albums release, but who's counting?).
Sad to say I don't know if I've listened to the original Bowie mix or the '97 Iggy "more aggressive" remix of the album (note to self: get back to this and gain some knowledge), but it's an interesting piece of history anyway.
As Iggy goes from screaming the lyrics to snarling and back to screaming again the Stooges goes from garage to punk to undistorted, clean melodies it sucks you down into a gritty world. Music made more to be performed live than listened to in the orderly form of headphones and a laptop with a cup of tea.
One good thing about this album being just shy of 34 minutes short is that it makes for more plays in a day and subsequently I've been playing this almost non-stop for the last couple of hours. Or to put it bluntly: it's a good one.
