0006. k.d. lang
Ingénue
This is what I knew about k.d. lang before todays review-session:
• canadian
• country-singer
• made the song Constant Craving
• dated some hot chick or another
After just a couple of songs I feel like I've been more properly introduced. Ingénue is a very personal album and like any good country album it's in the key of melancholy. While her band weaves their magic k.d. sings beautifully about love, hope and doubt (with a few blue notes thrown in for good measure).
This is an album that could have been released as ten singles that by their own could have topped every country chart (even though it contains som destinctive elements of french chanson and cabaret), but as far as I know the only single was Constant Craving which instead became an international megahit (factcheck: apparently Miss Chatelaine and The Mind Of Love also were released).
Amongst all these great tracks I'd like to shine a spotlight on Season Of Hollow Soul which, contrary to R.E.M:s Fireplace, actually contains a saxophone that sounds pretty great. I'll just recommend that you'll listen to it if you can (the songs worth it even if you've not got a hang-up on saxophones).
As the album draws to aclose we're treated to Constant Craving which leaves like a passing lover in the night. Placing it firmly on the GotToGet-list.
