This was actually pretty good. This is even better than many
of their contemporaries in the Britpop.
After getting dropped by Suede for dating Blur's Damon Albarn and rubbing Suede's noses in it, Justine Frischmann and fellow ex-suedester Justin Welch started Elastica (and managed to not get fired during the decade the band was active).
The first track, Line Up, is uncannily similar to a Blur song I can't seem to remember at the moment, but I bet it'll dawn on me at about 5 o'clock in the morning [fact check: Girls And Boys].
Connection is a pretty perfect little pop item, with a riff (provided by Albarn) sounding like a constipated Transformer, and nonchalantly vocalized lyrics. On the opposite side, the melody-driven Waking Up is an even better track, and followed by 2:1 it makes Elastica's eponymous debut one of very few Britpop albums that are actually listenable.
